I admire them both very, very much. But this speech by Adler — well, it is simply crazy. To be an artist means being part of life, not throwing it over out of some misplaced sense of “dedication.” To disconnect from life is to disconnect from the taproot of the art form. Balance, not imbalance, is the key to art.
